Bogor Botanical Gardens or the Bogor Botanical Garden is a large botanical garden located in the city of Bogor , Indonesia . The extent of 87 hectares and has 15,000 types of trees and plant collections . Currently Bogor Botanical Gardens as a tourist crowded , especially on Saturday and Sunday . Around the Bogor Botanical Gardens spread scientific centers of the Bogor-based , Bogor Zoological Museum , and PUSTAKA.Kebun Raya Bogor was originally part of the ' samida ' ( artificial forests or parks artificial ) that there has been at least in the reign of Maharaja Sri Baduga ( King Siliwangi , 1474-1513) of the Kingdom of Sunda , as stated in the inscription Batutulis . Artificial forest was intended for the purposes of protecting the environment as a place to nurture the seeds of rare wood . The idea stems from the establishment of the Botanical Garden Abner biologist who wrote a letter to the Governor -General GAGPh . van der Capellen . In the letter revealed his desire to ask for a piece of land that will be useful plant gardens , where teacher education , and the collection of plants for the development of other gardens . Prof . Karl Georg Caspar Reinwardt is one German national who moved to the Netherlands and became a scientist botany and chemistry . He decided to collect all of these plants in a botanical garden in the city of Bogor , which was then called Buitenzorg ( from the Dutch word meaning " not to worry" ) . Reinwardt also a pioneer in the field of making herbarium . He became known as a founder of the Bogor-based . In May 18, 1817 , the Governor -General Godert Alexander Gerard Philip van der Capellen formally established the Bogor Botanical Gardens as' s Lands Plantentuin te Buitenzorg . Its establishment was initiated by first plugging in the swing hoe Padjadjaran earth as a sign that the construction of the development phase , the implementation is led by Reinwardt himself , assisted by James Hooper and W.
